Oval dish with deep sides and everted rim. The centre of the dish, painted with a shrubby lobelia in shades of green, pink and yellow within a frame of gold leaves. The sides and rim of the dish with moulded scrolling decoration reserved in white against a deep underglaze blue ground, all enriched with designs of leaves and flowers painted in gold. Also reserved in white on the side of the dish, a small panel which bears the inscription in Arabic script: 'Amir-al-Hind Nawab Azam Jah Bahadur 1236 Hÿri (1820 A.D.).'

Object history | Azam Jah, the eleventh Nawab of the Carnatic (Arcot) for whom the service was made, reigned 1819-25. The rest of the service was sold at Bonham's 11/05/1978, Lot 115. Two plates offered Sotheby's Olympia, 12 April 2005, Lot 132. |
