Saucer with stencilled decoration circa 1745 hard-paste porcelain painted in monochrome blue diam. 12,6 cm no mark inv. C.134-1963 gift: Mrs A. Lane Saucer with underglaze painting in monochrome blue. This kind of decoration was applied with a stencil and is generally referred to as “a stampa” or “a stampino” even though this term never appears in the documents. The decoration used here probably is that described in 1744 as “blau a fiori” (with blue flowers, AGL, I, 2, f. 39, Fabbrica delle Porcellane di Doccia. Scritture e documenti, fasc. 4). Because of a certain inaccuracy in the execution of the decoration which is not very well centered, I believe that this saucer can be dated to around 1745, just slightly earlier than the soup dish (cat. 26). For further historical information, see cat. 26. A.B. Bibliography: unpublished
