Seated figure of a man, hard-paste porcelain. The slightly domed, moulded base is decorated with gilding and two enamelled flower clusters. It supports a grey rock pile on which sits the figure of a young man facing three quarters left and holding a bird in his left hand whilst supporting himself on the rock with his right. The man wears a speckled puce jacket above knee breeches in puce spotted in white. His calves and feet are bare. His white shirt is open to mid chest and he sports a green hat trimmed in gold. Flesh and hair are painted in natural colours.

The companion figure of a girl is illustrated in Carl Hernmark Marieberg, 1946, p. 174, pl. 109 and a similar male figure ex coll. Simon Goldblatt, Sotheby, 2 May, 1956, Lot 139, which has a basket at the feet of the figure.
