Place of origin |
Dish of hard-paste porcelain. Quadrilateral, with lobed angles. In the centre, a village feast, probably form an engraving after Teniers the Younger. In the background is an inn with a red and white banneret flying from a window. A bagpiper stands playing on an up-ended barrel, while a couple dance to the music. Behind them other peasants sit eating and drinking. In the foreground two groups are in discussion, whilst a small black dog runs between them. The rim of the dish is decorated with four oval panels enclosing sprays of flowers painted in purple and gilt, the panels outlined with gilding and reserved on a black ground. Between the panels are draped festoons of laurel in gilt.
