Place of origin |
Vase with figure of a shepherd, hard-paste porcelain. The vase, ovoid with swags of flowers in applied relief and with a pierced cabbage knob, has an undetachable cover and stands on a high rectangular pedestal of rustic rocks with applied tufts of moss. Leaning against pedestal and base from the right stands a shepherd in a simple "antique" tunic painted green, playing a flute. The vase is marbled in iron-red, with slight gilding on the running band of flowers and scrolls moulded in low relief round its middle. Swags of flowers on the vase in natural colours, the rock pedestal painted in greyish brown and green. The pedestal is open below and the hollow interior extends up to include the base and knob. Holes pierced through the pedestal and knob suggest that the object could have served as an incense-burner.
