Pinapple stand of bone china painted in green enamel and gilded. With a wide tray with a shaped wavy edge. In the middle is a receptacle for the pineapple stalk. Decorated with green pineapple-leaves in relief which are alternately spread out on the tray and turned up so as to clasp the receptacle, the tips in each case extends to the rim. Circular hole in the bottom.

Object history
The woody stalk of a pineapple was slotted into the centre to hold it upright. Slices from another pineapple or other fruit would go round the edge. The shape appears in the factory's design book of 1820, where it is identified as a 'Pine pedistall' (Information kinldy provided by Pam Woolliscroft, former archivist at the Spode factory, October 2011).
