White Jasper ware medallion with dark blue dip. Applied white bas-relief decoration, mimicking the effect of a classical carved cameo shell, depicts the classical subject of a muse with Lyre. The robed muse is in left profile. She sits on a stool playing a lyre on her lap with an open book before her. Her left foot is extended and rests on a footstool. The front edge of the cameo is bevelled and polished.
