Hanukkah is the Jewish Festival of Lights. It celebrates the victory of Judas Maccabeus over the Syrian king Antiochus Epiphanes and the rededication of the Temple in Jerusalem in 165 BC. This winter festival lasts eight days and an extra flame is lit for each night of the festival.

Physical description | Brass Hannukah lamp, with a row of eight shallow oil reservoirs. The back is pierced in openwork with a vase of flowers and leaves symmerically arranged with stamped outlines. Beneath is a tray for catching the oil. The shammash, servitor lamp, (top right) has been broken off. |
