The shaft is cylindrical in form and fashioned from a single piece of dark wood carved entirely with bands of floral scrolls running in a diagonal pattern, terminating in an oval shaped end with a roughened like surface on one side. At the other end is a carved handle fashioned in horn as a hand with the four fingers curved over, the white nails inset with bone, with the back of the hand and base delicately carved with foliate motifs.

This object was exhibited at the Paris Universelle exhibition of 1867, and later acquired by the Museum in 1869 for £2 abd 3 shillings.
