Object history
This piece was acquired by the museum in 1926 as a 'settee' but in 1979, when it was stripped back to it's frame to be reupholstered, it was discovered that it had originally been a window seat, with the back piece added at a later date.
The carving on the legs is an exact match with a set of chairs at Blenheim Palace.
