Historical context | HMS Neptune was a 98-gun second-rate ship of the line of the Royal Navy, launched in 1797. She was present at the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805 under the command of Captain JH Freemantle. In 1809, commanded by Captain C. Dilkes, she carried the flag of Rear-Admiral Cochran at the capture of Martinique. In March 1809, she assisted at the capture of the French 74-gun ship, D'Hautpolt. |
