Historical context | From Dept file (undated): 'The motif of a female portrait supporting a mirror occurs in a papier-mache Florentine frame in the sculpture collection (no. 850-1884). Also in a portrait-plaque of Faenaza pottery of the late 15th century inscribed Isoretta[?] Galate in the Salting bequest (C.2111-1910). Half-length figure of a young lady in costume of the period with arms crossed below her breast. Her hair hangs down on her shoulders and is decked with ribbons and a string of pearls. A jewelled pendant hangs round her neck as well as a chain from which is suspended a large medallion left blank as if for the addition of a device. (From ceramic inventory)' |
