Registered files RF 8669/1901, containing J.H. Pollen's report; the purchase consisting of museum nos. 492 to 617-1901, and composed chiefly of ironwork and woodwork was bought for £350.

The upper and lower compartments are blank. Below is a convex moulding. From a house near Exeter Oak, First half of 16th century 24.8 x 185 x 13.3 cm Mus. No.587-1901 The correct name for the lintel or mantel over a fireplace is ‘clavel’. The term ‘breast-sumner,’ ’bressomer’ or ‘bressumer’ (the ‘sumner’ or beam over a large opening) is sometimes inaccurately employed for the chimney-beam or ‘clavel'.’
