Object history | Bequeathed by St George Littledale Esq., Wick Hill House, Bracknell. Described as ‘in four pieces’ – a photograph shows the panelling in Wick Hill House, 'Framework much worn in places. The section with a double head in profile, with four small panels below, and at the bottom a panel within an arched framework enriched with applied bosses and a keystone probably adapted at a later date. RF 31/5629 A file note says that Mr Littledale ‘knew this panelling in its original position in a house near Congleton, Cheshire. It was then covered with several coats of paint. There is no doubt whatever as to its genuineness (although the cornice moulding has been added).. Said to have been illustrated in Oliver Brackett, ‘Encyclopedia of English Furniture' |
