Object history | Bought £6 10s. from Mr Wright, 134 Wardour Street (Sir W. Hart Dyke on Stores Agenda 2526/1889 on Mr Pollen’s recommendation). From the church of St Mary Somerset (Somershithe), Thames St. (The church was built by Wren 1695, dismantled 1871). St Mary Somerset was finished 16th Feb 1695/6. Wren Society vol. X, 1933, p.53 from a list of Wren's churches (Parentalia pp.309-18, as 1708) states that there was 'no organ'. The fittings of the church said to have been removed in 1873 to St Mary's, Britannia Street, Hoxton. St Mary's Somerset was destroyed except for the tower. |
