Artist/Maker | |
Place of origin |
Ten scale models in wood of 'River' system storage units. These scale models are produced by the manufacturer of the furniture as a marketing tool and they are scaled to match the variously sized units of the system. The sculptural quality of the furniture is echoed by the blocks and their unpolished surfaces, which reflect the plain wood finish of the full-size range. Reminiscent of children's building blocks, the scale models draw attention to the playful character of the range of furniture.

Object history | These scale models are produced by the manufacturer of the furniture as a marketing tool. These blocks, which are scaled to match the variously sized units of the system, enable retailers to demonstrate the versatility and breadth of the range and to clients to choose the desired configuration prior to purchase. Woodgate was influenced by the consideration of Angus Calder's mobiles in the design of the 'River' system. The range is the result of his application of the constantly changing form of the mobile to furniture. Given to the V&A in 1995 by Punt Mobles [R.P. 95/989]. |
