Printed dye book of coal tar colours with fabric samples. English printed version of the German dyebook. The third volume of the set, this book deals with Coal Tar Colours and their application in dying cotton and other vegetable fibres.
The first part of the book covers both patterned and plain fabrics: Linings, ball dress colours on Mercerised cotton cloths, decoration and bookbinding, artificial flowers, black dress goods, umbrella cloth and cotton-zanella, goods for workmen's clothes, multi-coloured tailing cloths, corduroys, velvet, hosiery, multi-coloured hosiery, beaver shirt flannel, shirting, corset materials, jacket and apron materials for domestics, indigo staple goods, materials for blouses, blouse and dress materials, khaki twill, bagging, shoe canvas, sail cloth, tent canvas, etc, materials for blinds and marquess, curtain materials, gauzes and cotton damasks, damasks, mattress cloths, bedding, table cloths and household cloths, tablecloth borders, lace, ribbons and twine. Each page has woven and dyed examples with the recipes for dyeing each sample on the facing page.
The second part of the book, from page 87, deals with the dying of other vegetable fibres including all kinds of textiles and paper fibres, brush rope and twine, basts and plaiting materials. These include linen fabrics, jute, ramie yarns, hemp, cocoa and sisal, straw, bast, esparto, artificial silk and various paper yarns and fabrics. Many of these are shown in dyed yarn form with accompanying recipes for colours,
Part IV of the book deals with bleaching, mercerising and finishing, including instructions and various tables.
