This block-printed cotton was found in a gravesite in Akmihn, Egypt. Such textiles were produced in India for a wide-spread export market. They illustrate the Indian technique of cotton dyeing which influenced and came to transform cloth dyeing in Europe in the late 17th century.

Physical description
Probably printed with an alum mordant before being printed with red; the purple may have been produced by adjusting a combination of the same mordant and dyes to give a different shade. The yellow would have been painted on.
