Pillow Cover
1640 (made)
Artist/Maker | |
Place of origin |
Pillow cover of linen with cut work and lace insertions. The hem and seams are decorated with a single line of open-work and the open end with long loops of twisted thread. In the side seams are insertions of bobbin lace with an imitation reticella pattern.
The closed end is decorated with an insertion of geometric needle lace and with two broad panels of cut work. The cut work panels are both divided into a lattice-work of small squares, which are variously filled to form a geometric pattern of over-lapping squares and triangles. The fillings are solidly worked in button-hole and darning stitches with bullion-knots which produce a picot effect along the intersecting bars.
