Panel of jacquard woven cotton used as upholstery on a sofa. Oblong with two small projecting pieces on either side. The design shows an ogival serpentine design made from branching green leaves. In each central compartment fits a three-headed poppy with other decorative poppy heads facing in and out of the compartment. The design is worked in shades of green, brown, cream and grey on a plum-coloured ground.

Object history | Registered File number 1985/750. The design is similar to a number of others produced by the Silver Studio at the turn of the 19th century. A large percentage of their designs at this time were sold to two French firms, Vanoutryve of Lille and Leborgne of Lannoy and other similar woven cotton jacquards have been identified as their work. The donor is a dealer in late 19th century furniture and removed this cover from a sofa in his possession. |
