Place of origin |
Full gored skirt panel of net, open at the back, with a train. An under-flounce of plain net is attached in a scalloped line just below the knee.
It is machine net decorated with applied and inset motifs, made from machine woven tapes (some gathered into three-dimensional flower heads), heavy and light 'nets' of woven gauze, thick braid, decorative filling and Swiss chemical lace, and some simple hand-worked fillings.
The skirt is divided into panels by broad vertical bands of heavy leaves with open-work centres. The bands hang loose from the line of the scalloped under-flounce for 26.5 cm at the front and for 66 cm down the back. Swags of flower heads mark the line of the under-flounce. Below are sprays of flowers and large flower-formed medallions, above are similar medallions and floral sprays, as well as large daisy-like flowers.
