Artist/Maker
Place of origin

Sample of cotton with a cream ground, block printed with an overall pattern of gently scrolling twigs formed by a series of long truncated stems in brown and ochre with green and ochre acanthus style leaves and small simple brown leaves. From these main twigs there are thinner, flowering stems with an assortment of flowers (mostly unidentifiable, but includes carnations) block printed in red and blue with green and brown leaves. The design elements are outlined in brown. Some of the flowers have been left uncoloured and, in places, the colour has not exactly registered. Each selvedge has two blue threads.

The sample is printed with several stamps in different colours along one edge.
