Set of three tortoiseshell hair combs. The largest comb has three prongs and an open work decorative mount based on an asymmetrical arrangement of foliage around a lyre, across the strings of which curves an 'S' shaped spray of foliage.
A/B, the smaller combs, match and have an asymmetrical design of foliage, similar to that on the large comb.
The box and lid, C/D, are rectangular and made from white card. On the bottom in a late 19th century hand is written 'Fine Tortoiseshell Hairpins. M.I.J.' The box has a cotton wool layer to protect the combs.
