ca. 1900 (made)
Artist/Maker | |
Place of origin |
Window blind made of natural-coloured linen with a coarse bobbin lace trimming. Cotton length with hand-hemmed sides seams on one side and machined on the other, and a broad additional shaped lower edge decorated with bobbin lace. The border is attached to the main body of the blind with an additional strengthening panel which is machine sewn in white cotton. The linen ground is cut around the bobbin lace and joined by hand chain stitching in white cotton. The bobbin lace trimming is heavy and has a design of curving, highly stylised, floral motifs and filling, which projects in part below the lower edge, giving a highly decorative effect when used at the window. The window edge fittings have been removed from the blind and this now has a raw edge.
