Pair of Deck Shoes
1981-1982 (made)
Artist/Maker | |
Place of origin |
The so-called 'deck shoe' started out as useful sailing footwear. Its informal style, ridged soles and lightweight design made it useful for slippery conditions. In 1980s America the shoe moved away from the boat-deck to the university campus to become a preppie wardrobe staple. Traditionally made from natural leather, the deck shoe evolved to include a variety of hues. This version in patriotic red, navy and white is a colourful update of a conservative, practical design.
