Place of origin

Man’s girdle and hangers of leather, covered with white silk satin and lined with carnation silk velvet. The girdle comprised two pieces held together with a buckle and hook. It is embroidered with blue silk, silver filé, purl and spangles. It has two metal buckles with rings, one metal strap guard and a hook at each end for fastening. The hangers are embroidered with yellow and blue silk, silver filé, purl and spangles over thick wool padding in a design of two mirror-imaged lions. There are 10 scabbard straps, each held with a metal buckle. The hangers are attached at the top with a metal hook. Girdle and hangers are edged with a ⅜-inch (8 mm) fringe of carnation (now faded to white) silk and silver filé.

Originally there would have been a matching front strap connecting the hangers to the girdle; this has not survived.
