Place of origin |
This bronze of a birdcatcher is made after a model by Giambologna, in ca. 1620-1650.
A similar bronze of a birdcatcher, with a 'Lanthorne in his left hand' was among the fifteen statuettes, by Pietro Tacca after models by Giambologna, that were presented in 1612 by the Grand Duke of Tuscany to Henry, Prince of Wales. After Henry's early death these bronzes passed to Charles I whose enthusiasm for collecting works of art may have been stimulated by his elder brother.
