This is a medallic coin, a special category. The medal is struck, not cast, and represents some sort of currency, although it was perhaps never meant for circulation. It represents forty grossi. The grosso is a coin, which had first appeared in Venice in the early 13th century and was present in Milan, when Lodovico II of Saluzzo was striking his coins.
This medal depicts Marguerite de Foix (1473-1536), the second wife of Lodovico II of Saluzzo.

On the reverse an escutcheon hanging from a leafless tree, on which a bird perches. Inscription.
