The depicted Camillo Gonzaga was Count of Novellara. He was the son of Alessandro Gonzaga and succeeded him in 1533. In 1555 he married Barbara Borromeo. With his two brothers he served in the Imperial Army, fighting in Flanders and Germany. He retired in Novellara and led a life of exemplary piety.
The medal shows the Count aged 33.
