This medal depicting William Roscoe is made by the medallist Peter Wyon (ca. 1767-1822), in England in 1806.
The sitter William Roscoe (1753-1831) was a Liverpool banker, historian and attorney. He was the first president of the Liverpool Royal Institution, helped to found a Liverpool Society for the encouragement of painting and design, and wrote 'A Life of Lorenzo de Medici' (1795) and 'Life and Pontificate of Leo the Tenth' (1805).
