This is an obverse only medal and depicts the bust of Ezzelino da Romano, known as the tyrant of Padua.
Ezzelino (1194-1259) was a lord and ruler of Verona, Vicenza and Padua. He is known as a tyrant, although this might be due to his many enemies and their negative propaganda. He is a widely used character in literature, where he is also associated with the devil, hell, violence and cruelty (eg. Dante Alighieri's 'Divine Comedy').
