This medal, made by Messrs Waterlow & Sons Ltd., commemorates the Opening of Imperial Institute. The institute was established as a memorial of the Queen's jubilee and the foundation stone was laid by the Queen on 4 July 1887. The building was opened in May 1893 when this medal was probably struck.
