This bronze medal depicts three allegorical female figures, enthroned and flanked by a sailing ship and a steamship and a lighthouse. One of the female figure holds aloft in her left hand, an electric light emitting rays and a set of caliphers in her right hand.

The medal commemorates Sir David Lionel Salomons, a pioneer of electric lighting who constructed an electric automobile in 1874.

Medal, bronze. Obverse side, an allegorical figure, enthroned holds aloft in her left hand an electric light emitting rays and in her right a set of calipers. She is flanked by two seated females in profile, the one on the left, holding a brush and a palette, gazes at a head of Athena on the ground and a camera on a tripod; the one on the right is writing on a scroll. In the background on the left, a sailing ship and a steamship, on the right a lighthouse and a locomotive.

Historical context
Sir David Lionel Goldsmid-Stern-Salomons Bart., J.P., D.L (1851-1925) was adopted by his uncle Alderman Sir David Salomons first Baronet and Lord Mayor of London who died in 1873, succeeding him under a special reminder. In 1889 he assumed the additional names of Goldsmid and Stern. He was a pioneer of electric lighting and constructed an electric automobile in 1874. He did much for the advancement of motor traction and his publications include works on electric light, photography, the motor car and railway signalling.
