Pomona

Statuette
ca. 1747 (made)
Artist/Maker
Place of origin

This terracotta statuette is another version, more highly finished, of one signed and dated 1747 in the Museo Civico, Treviso. These sketch-models, together with a drawing dated 1747 (private collection, Treviso), are connected with a (now lost) marble executed for the renowned collector and British Consul in Venice, Joseph Smith (c.1682-1770). Marchiori's sculpture is of major importance in bridging the gap between late Baroque and early Neo-classicism in Northern Italy.
