This statuette is satirical and was perhaps designed as an allegory of vanity. It shows a female Ape in a walking pose, earing earings and a scarf crossed on the chest and tied at the back above the tail.

Its is similar to the animal bronzes produced in the studio of Giovanni Bologna at the end of the sixteenth and the beginning of the seventeenth century.

Bronze statuette of a female ape. The model shows a female Ape in a walking pose with the right leg advanced, the right forearm extended and the left arm raised. The figure wears earings and a scarf crossed on the chest and tied at the back above the tail.
