Object history
Taken from departmental record: 'Plaster cast. Ornament from one of two Roman galleys built for the Emperor Caligula between 37 and 41 A.D. The original of cast bronze was recovered in 1895 from Lake Nemi near Rome, where the two galleys remain submerged.'
