28 specimens of rocks

Rocks
Place of origin

These 28 specimens of rocks illustrating the occurrence of Nephrite (Jade) in Europe were collected by George F. Kunz, senior, in 1899, and George F. Kunz, jun., in 1900, at Jordansmuhl in Silesia, and were bequeathed by the late Heber R. Bishop, together with the work "Investigations on Jade" in two volumes.

Nephrite is one of two different mineral species called Jade (the other and rarer one being Jadeite). Nephrite Jade comes mainly in white and greys to dark greens, sometimes with yellows, browns or whites. It is more durable than Jadeite and therefore is used as an oranamental stone for carvings and gemstones.
