To the left a bearded peasant sits drinking out of a scoop with a side-handle. He is dressed in a white blouse spotted with pink, and blue trousers with pink stripes, bound in at the knee with white "puttees" edged with brown. On his feet are clumsy clog-like shoes. At his left side is a container in the form of a barrel with a flat cover having a yoke-shaped handle, the whole painted to resemble wood.
