Teacup and Saucer

ca. 1735 (made)
Artist/Maker
Place of origin

Teacup and saucer of hard-paste porcelain. Low wide shape of cup, with slightly out-turned lip. Inside both, four simple oriental flower-sprays round a medallion containing a flower; lattice border with mounds in panels, all in underglaze blue. The celadon glaze apparently failed in places on the cup, and there are flaws in this glaze on the saucer.

Both pieces are redecorated, probably not long after and in the factory, with purple enamel and gold. On the outside of the cup, flower-sprays and insects. Inside the cup and saucer the same colours have been added.
