1745-50 (made)
Artist/Maker
Place of origin

Snuff box of hard-paste porcelain. In the form of a spaniel's head, spaniels were typically used as hunting dogs during the eighteenth century. Flat cover. Gilt copper mounts. The dog's head painted naturalistically; inside solidly gilt. The outside cover showing military soliders and the inside cover with hunting subjects. Most likely the bottom section was added at a later date but the dog dates to 1745 and closely resemble other examples by Meissen at this date.
