Mandoline Expression

Cylinder Musical Box
ca. 1890-1902 (made)
Artist/Maker
Place of origin

The object file states that this is an 'anachronistic' box, made ca. 1902 after Nicole Freres had ceased trading in Geneva. It makes use of a relatively early Gamme number and uses a Nicole Freres-stamped comb of an earlier age. The tune sheet is Brun's one with the 'world' trademark. As in keeping with boxes from this period, the case is London made and was possibly even assembled in London from all the remains of the stock-in-trade shipped over from Geneva. It plays four airs, Verdi, Donizetti and Meyerbeer, with one comb and a lever winding mechanism.
