Oval medallion of white Jasper ware with blue dip and applied white relief. The scene depicts the two classical figures of Hygeia and Aesculapius. Hygeia to the left stands facing right in profile wearing flowing classical robes, and carries a branch in her right hand. Her left hand extends a snake over the flames of a central altar. Her father Aesculapius, Greek god of medicine and healing, turns his head back towards her in a twisted pose, holding a serpent entwined staff in his left hand. The medallion is mounted in a gilt frame.
