Teapot and cover of porcelain. Straight-sided body, oval in section, painted with vertical bands of caillouté pattern in gold on a dark blue ground, alternating with narrow bands of leafy garlands. The lid has the same decoration but with radial narrow bands. The scrolled handle, straight spout and pointed finial have gilt filets and details on white ground. Gilt metal chain fitted to gilt metal straps.

Physical description
Teapot and cover of porcelain. Straight-sided body, oval in section, painted with vertical bands of caillouté pattern in gold on a dark blue ground, alternating with narrow bands of leafy garlands. The lid has the same decoration but with radial narrow bands. The scrolled handle, straight spout and pointed finial have gilt filets and details on white ground. Gilt metal chain fitted to gilt metal straps.

Object history
All royal residences in France used to have inventory numbers marked on their contents in red and entered in inventories which are still in existence today. The possibility that this teapot belonged to a royal residence might be checked against these inventories.
