Belt Mount

1800-1899 (made)
Artist/Maker
Place of origin

These six deeply domed filigree objects are belt mounts. They would have been worn, attached to a cloth or leather belt by the four loops on the back, along with the larger matching clasp which accompanied them when they were acquired by the Museum in 1905.

At that time they were described as possibly Turkish in origin. Filigree of this kind was made throughout the Ottoman region, and they may have come from somewhere such as Syria rather than Turkey itself.
