Place of origin

Sample of handwoven wool, silk and cotton with a pattern of brick-red squares on a white ground. Taken from a pattern book. Possibly intended as furnishing fabric.

The squares are larger on one side and smaller on the other, and are formed of complex alterations of the warp and weft threads with long and tangled 'floats' which give it a textured effect.
