Sample book containing textile samples and accounts of textile purchases, and personal comments made by Jane Griffin, Lady Franklin. 'Prices of various Articles of Expenditure in France' is on the title page. Inside the front cover are Lady Franklin's initials, and the date of the first entries as 1821. These entries are interspersed by others made in 1828, possibly while she was on her honeymoon. About half way through is another heading 'General Expenses of visit to France in May, June and July 1821. Kept by Louise Herring and copied from her account book' and in a different handwriting.
At the end of the book comes an explanation of the new measure in France, the metre, in Jane Griffin's hand, followed by five pages with scraps of material sewn down, numbered, with captions, and some are dated 1823 from her visits to Germany and to Vienna, and some dated 1821 from Paris.

Walter, Tailor and Breeches Maker of 415 The Strand, dated April 1829, with a list of current prices which contains mixed entries of the 1821 and 1828 visits to Paris.
