This set of twelve related bobbins is described as: "one of ebony, the others of light-coloured wood, turned, incised, and inlaid with black and red composition. Three have diaper patterns, three leaf patterns, one a fish, and one the following inscription: 'HOW FRELY I WAS WEN / AND SO DOTH THE RUE / GREEN GROWS THE LARL' Others are inscribed with initials and dates as follows: 1762, 1765, R.A., E.B., C.M.I., J.W., H.A.S., 1801-1807, 1816, I.H., W.A.S., 1820." However, the register does not indicate which inscription relates to which bobbin, or which of the twelve is made of ebony.
