Swatch sample of cuttings from a pattern book containing eight examples of casement cloths of fine wool and cotton. The first design is of cotton with a brocaded floral motif in yellow, green and grey, and two other cotton examples show printed designs of purple poppies and stylised floral groups in shades of green. All other examples are of plain or printed wool challis. Printed woollen examples are in white with isolated floral sprigs in various colours.

Swatch sample of cuttings from a pattern book containing eight examples of casement cloths of fine wool and cotton. The first design is of cotton with a brocaded floral motif in yellow, green and grey, and two other cotton examples show printed designs of purple poppies and stylised floral groups in shades of green. All other examples are of plain or printed wool challis. Printed woollen examples are in white with isolated floral sprigs in various colours.

  • A plain olive green example has a label that reads 'AW9'
  • Labels on the front of the swatch in Jocelyn Morton's handwriting read 'Cuttings from Pattern Book (A4) of "Casement Materials" issued in 1900(?) by Affleck and Brown, Manchester:- (Pattern Book includes details of casement loops, brass curtain rods, bod rings, "Gartherwell" tape - like "Rufflette" tape - made up Brise Bise Blinds - 6/11 and 7/11 each in slips in book - and casement cloth printed with a Dado). Pattern Book now with Victoria and Albert Museum. Prices as quoted to public presumably'
