Button of silver gilt. Roughly oval in shape and made from metal strips 5 cm wide. The button consists of two bundles of these strips packed together in doubled lengths to the depth or width of 0.25 inch, and one end of each has been fanned out and then hammered so that the doubled end is slightly flattened and twisted round showing the width of the metal strip. The other ends have been soldered together. The shank for sewing purposes is soldered onto the reverse side. Reference number 116 M.T.
