Plate of earthenware transfer-printed with black enamel and over-painted with enamels. In the middle are the figures of two soldiers of the Civic Guard of Rome, and one of them is holding a papal standard bearing the words 'I BOLOGNESI AI ROMANI'. In the background are seen Palazzo dei Conservatori on the Capitol and the tomb of C. Cestius. Below are the words 'VIVA PIO IX'. On the rim are figures of a lion, a woman with an anchor, a pair of scales, and two sprays of foliage, in panels separated by stars in medallions.
